Editor

Use this guide as the map for Quill's file Editor, then open the detailed manual for the specific surface or task you need.

Know which surface owns the task

The Editor is a collection of coordinated work surfaces, not one translation form. Start from the file and content controls, work in the table or Preview, use the toolbar for actions on the current selection, and open the sidebar when you need row-specific context.

Header
Identifies the open file and provides file-level navigation, Contents selection, Help, messages, shortcuts, and delivery entry points.
Table and column headers
Own row navigation, Source and Target selection, language and font controls, filters, cell editing, and visible workflow status.
Toolbar
Runs review, batch, reference, and view actions using the current focus, selection, target language, and your available permissions.
Sidebar
Shows AI Agent, translation-memory and termbase assets, contextual metadata, and saved history for the settled row selection.
Status and conflict bars
Appear only when synchronization, access, replacement-file, offline, or conflict information requires attention.

Choose a detailed manual

  • Open Table and row editing when you need to understand Source or Target columns, selection, filters, drafts, commits, statuses, or read-only rows.
  • Open Toolbar and review actions before changing statuses, revising Source, pre-filling, running batch edits, clearing text, or changing the workspace view.
  • Open Sidebar and references for row-specific TM, TB, metadata, and history; open AI Agent when you need to define a scope and review proposed changes.
  • Open Collaboration and recovery when the status bar, offline mode, another user's focus, access loss, a replacement file, or a conflict changes what you can do.

Check an Editor session before working

  1. Confirm the filename and Contents selection in the header so the visible rows match the part of the file you intend to work on.
  2. Check the Target column language and the row statuses. Language availability and editable rows follow the file, assignments, workflow state, and your permissions.
  3. If a status or conflict bar appears, resolve or understand it before starting a batch action. A fully synchronized session does not show the synchronization bar.
  4. Focus one row and confirm that the toolbar and sidebar reflect the intended selection before using actions that can change content or status.

After completion: The filename, content range, target language, visible selection, and connection state all match the work you intend to perform.

Detailed guides

  • Editor header and file controls

Identify the open file, choose which contents to display, open page help and messages, review keyboard shortcuts, and enter the delivery flow from the editor header.

  • Translation table and row editing

Learn how to choose the text and language shown in each column, find the rows you need, select an exact work scope, save drafts, and commit completed translations.

  • Editor toolbar

Use the toolbar to change workflow state, revise Source text, pre-fill from TM, manage change history, work with tags and references, commit or clear selected Target rows, and change the Editor view.

  • Editor sidebar

Use the AI Agent, TM and TB matches, row metadata, and translation history without leaving the row you are reviewing.

  • Editor AI Agent

Ask questions about the current file, define exactly which rows may change, and review every proposed rewrite before applying it.

  • Preview

Review the translation in a layout close to the source file, edit bound target slots, and understand which preview changes have been saved.

  • Metadata editing mode

Edit each source segment's category, subcategory, and tag-presence classification, review the staged set, and apply it as one deliberate update.

  • Collaboration, synchronization, and conflicts

Understand editor connection states, work within the supported offline boundary, interpret collaborator focus, and resolve row-and-language conflicts deliberately.

  • Editor keyboard shortcuts

Use the shortcuts exposed by the editor to move between target rows, control row selection, confirm text, copy Source text, open change history, insert tags, and revise Source text.

  • Deliver work from the Editor

Deliver selected content groups for the active Target language after reviewing committed, locally edited, and not-started rows.
