Translation table and row editing

Learn how to choose the text and language shown in each column, find the rows you need, select an exact work scope, save drafts, and commit completed translations.

How the table is organized

The table is the main editing surface. Each horizontal row represents one source segment. The narrow left column identifies the row and shows its current state, the Source column provides the text to translate or compare, and the Target column contains the translation for the active target language.

Row number and status
Use the stable file row number to identify a segment. The short label below it summarizes a draft, workflow stage, lock, pre-fill, source change, approval, or reupload difference when applicable.
Source
Shows the original source by default. If another language is available in the Source selector, you can display that translation as a comparison without changing the active Target language.
Target
Shows and edits one target language at a time. The available languages follow the file and your assignment. Changing this selector changes the Target layer used by the table, filters, statuses, issues, and row history.

Column header controls

Column title
Click the Source, Target, or row-number title to cycle through ascending sort, descending sort, and the original file order.
Source selector
Choose the original source or an available translated language to display in the Source column. Source suggestions and revised-source badges are shown only while the original source is selected.
Target selector
Choose the target language you want to edit. Only languages available to you are listed. Users with metadata access may also see Metadata; that opens a separate editing mode described in the Metadata guide.
Font settings
Set the font family and size independently for Source and Target. The preference follows the displayed language; reset removes that language-specific override. Font settings change presentation only and never alter the saved text.

Find and narrow rows

Open the filter control at the right end of a column header. Search applies to that column. You can use plain text, enable a regular expression when you need a pattern, or include contextual fields when the visible text alone is not enough.

Row-number filter
Filters by visible translation state and issue state. In a reuploaded-file comparison it can also filter new, changed, or context-changed rows. Counts show how many rows currently match each option.
Source filter
Searches the Source column. When the original source is displayed, speaker options are available when the file contains speaker information.
Target filter
Searches the active Target language and can narrow rows by category and subcategory. Changing the Target language changes the text and statuses searched.

Focus, selection, and action scope

Focus identifies the row where typing and caret-based insertions occur. Selection identifies the Source or Target cells used by toolbar and batch actions. They often move together, but they are different states: always check the highlighted column and rows before an action.

  • Click a Source or Target cell to replace the current selection with that cell.
  • Use Shift-click to select the visible range from the last selected row, staying in the same Source or Target column.
  • Use Ctrl-click on Windows/Linux or Command-click on macOS to add or remove individual cells from the selection.
  • Ctrl/Command+Shift+A selects all currently visible cells in one column. Repeating it alternates between Source and Target.

Draft saving and explicit commit

Typing in an editable Target cell creates a draft and marks the row as EDITED. Leaving the cell or moving to another editable row saves the latest text without declaring the translation complete. This protects work in progress while preserving the distinction between a draft and a reviewed translation.

Save while moving
Tab or moving out of the cell saves the current draft. When navigation advances, the editor skips rows that cannot be edited.
Commit one row
Press Ctrl+Enter in the Target cell to save the text as a completed human translation and move to the next editable row.
Commit selected rows
Select Target cells and choose Commit in the toolbar. Existing drafts are committed; selected rows that already contain saved target text can also be confirmed. Locked, approved, or unavailable rows are not changed.

Complete a translation row

  1. Confirm the target language in the Target header.
  2. Select a Target cell and enter or revise the translation.
  3. Review tags, spelling indications, issues, and the displayed status.
  4. Press Ctrl+Enter, or select the intended Target rows and use Commit.

After completion: The row leaves the draft-only state and shows the completed workflow attribution for the current user and stage.

Read statuses, read-only rows, and locks

EDITED
The current user has an uncommitted draft or the latest saved state is still marked as edited. Review and commit it when the translation is ready.
TRN / EDT / RVW / PRF / ADM
Shows the latest human workflow attribution: translator, editor, reviewer, proofreader, or administrator. A faded label can indicate that another user produced the latest result.
AI / percentage / TM
AI identifies generated content. A percentage or TM identifies a translation-memory pre-fill and, when available, its match percentage. These are starting points, not evidence of human review.
CHANGED
The source changed after the target text was created. The target remains available for revision, but it should be checked against the new source and explicitly committed again.
APPROVED or LOCK
Approved and locked rows are read-only in ordinary editing. A row can also be unavailable because the current workflow does not assign it to you or another collaborator is actively editing it.

Badges and row details

Source suggestions
The badge count is the number of visible source rows with a correction suggestion. Select the original Source, then click the badge repeatedly to move through those rows.
Revised sources
Counts visible rows whose source was revised. Click the badge to cycle through them. Source revision requires separate permission and is not ordinary Target editing.
Pending, answered, and comment badges
The Target header totals issues for the active target language. Click a badge to open the issue view focused on that state. Badges inside a Target row open issues for that exact row and language.
Difference corner
In reupload comparison, a small corner on CHANGED or CONTEXT rows can be focused or hovered to inspect the previous and current source or the changed context values.

When editing does not work as expected

Problem

The Target cell cannot be edited.

What to do

Check whether the row is approved, locked, outside your assignment, being edited by another collaborator, or the editor is temporarily blocking writes while it restores a valid shared state. Also confirm that a language—not Metadata—is selected in Target.

Problem

Commit did not change every selected row.

What to do

Verify that Target cells—not Source cells—were selected. Rows without target content, rows that are read-only, and rows no longer available to you are skipped. Recheck the active Target language and current filters before retrying.

Problem

A row disappeared after filtering or committing.

What to do

The row may no longer match the active search, status, issue, category, or subcategory filter. Clear or adjust the relevant column filter; the file row number lets you confirm that you returned to the same segment.
