Preview
Review the translation in a layout close to the source file, edit bound target slots, and understand which preview changes have been saved.
Open Preview and understand what it shows
Choose Preview in the editor toolbar to replace the translation table with a file-oriented view. Return to the horizontal or vertical table layout from the same layout controls. Preview is available only when Quill has a supported preview representation for the file.
- Displayed layout
- Documents, spreadsheets, and other supported files preserve different structures, so navigation and slot placement can differ by file type.
- Target slots
- A slot linked to an editor row shows the current target text for the selected target language. Selecting it also selects the corresponding target row.
- Source reference
- When available, focusing or editing a target slot reveals its source text and workflow status so you can verify context without leaving Preview.
Edit a target slot
- Select an editable target slot. In previews that separate focus from editing, select the focused slot again or press Enter to start editing.
- Edit the target text while checking the source reference displayed near the slot.
- Confirm the edit or leave the editor normally. Quill saves the changed target through the same target-saving path used by the table.
After completion: The updated target appears in both Preview and the translation table. Saving text does not by itself change a row to a completed workflow status.
- Editable
- The slot is bound to a target row, a target language is selected, and your assignment and the row status allow editing.
- Read-only
- The item may be unbound structural content, approved or locked, outside your assignment, or temporarily focused by another collaborator.
Know when preview changes take effect
Not every preview surface has the same controls. Use the boundary shown by the surface you are editing rather than assuming that leaving Preview will apply every pending change.
- Target text edit
- Confirming or completing the slot edit saves that row's target text through the normal editor path. It is then visible in the table as well.
- Save or Apply
- A specialized preview editor may keep a working copy. Its Save or Apply action is the point at which that working copy becomes the saved preview state.
- Cancel
- Cancel discards the current unsaved working copy and returns to the last saved state. It does not reverse target text or preview settings that were already saved.
When Preview does not behave as expected
Problem
Preview is unavailable or cannot be loaded.
What to do
Confirm that the file type supports Preview and that you are online long enough to load its preview data. Return to the table to continue editing while the preview is unavailable.
Problem
A visible item cannot be edited.
What to do
Check whether it is linked to a Target row, whether the correct target language is selected, and whether the row is approved, locked, outside your assignment, or focused by another collaborator.
Problem
The preview text differs from what you expected.
What to do
Verify the selected target language and return to the corresponding table row. If a save failed, correct the connection or permission problem and save again; do not assume the visible working copy was persisted.
