Source & upload

Prepare source or reference files, verify how every sheet will be used, and follow processing through to an Editor-ready file.

Who should use this page

Use Source when you need to add material for translation, inspect existing files, reopen completed work, or manage versions and analysis. In the project sidebar, under Assets, select Source. If Source or a particular action is missing, ask a project manager or workspace administrator to check your project access.

Understand the file workspace

The main table lists files and their sheets, languages, domains, status, and available actions. Expand a file to work with individual sheets; select a completed Source sheet or file name to open the Editor. Filters and compact cards provide the same core information on narrower screens.

  • Upload opens the preparation dialog; translation and review actions operate on eligible rows in the selected file scope.
  • Version, restore, export, statistics, and deletion controls appear only where the selected file and your access allow them.
File and sheet
Expand a file to see each sheet. A workbook can mix Source, Reference, and Excluded sheets, so review them separately.
Domain
Source creates rows to translate; Reference creates material used for context; Exclude creates neither.
Status
Use the status beside a file or sheet to decide whether it can be previewed, submitted, opened, or needs correction.

Prepare and review an upload

Upload a source or reference file

  1. Choose Upload and add supported files. Quill prepares files one at a time so each result remains independently reviewable.
  2. Open the preview and review every sheet's detected domain, source columns, target-language columns, row counts, and parser options.
  3. Correct the domain or mapping when needed. Use Reference for supporting material and Exclude for sheets that must not produce translation or reference items.
  4. Confirm that at least one sheet is Source or Reference, then choose Upload. Follow the file's visible processing status until it reaches Completed or shows an error.

After completion: The committed file appears in the Source list. Completed Source sheets can be opened in the Editor; Reference sheets are available to features that use project reference material.

Read processing states and results

Preparation status tells you whether the upload can be reviewed or submitted. After submission, the file row shows each processing stage. A file becomes available as the latest successful version only after its required processing finishes; a failure does not present a partially prepared version as complete.

  • Completed: the committed file is ready for the actions supported by its domain.
  • Changed or Update: review the version or matching information before continuing.
  • Error: open the visible error, correct the file or preparation choice, and retry the applicable step; do not assume later work was committed.

Manage versions and destructive actions

A major reupload creates the next version in the same file group, while a compatible target-only update can update matched translations without replacing the source. Restore points preserve editable work around major version changes. Exports keep the committed file structure while applying the intended source or target fields.

Problem

Upload cannot be submitted

What to do

Open every sheet with a warning. Assign at least one sheet to Source or Reference, and for a tabular Source confirm that at least one column is mapped as Source. Save changed parse options before returning to the list.

Problem

Preview text or row counts look wrong

What to do

Reopen the sheet and check encoding, delimiter, segmentation, and parse mode. Apply one change at a time and compare the refreshed preview before uploading.

Problem

A submitted file shows Error

What to do

Open the visible error, correct the original file or affected sheet choice, and retry the offered action. Until the new version completes, continue using the previous successful version if one exists.
