Getting started

Set up the right workspace, create a project, add source material, and move into translation with the correct language and security boundaries.

Before you begin

Quill organizes work by workspace and project. A workspace owns its members and security mode; a project inside it owns its source language, target languages, files, resources, and collaboration data.

  • Use your personal workspace for individual work, or choose an organization workspace when the project must be shared or governed by that organization.
  • Organization menus and actions appear only when your membership, workspace plan, and assigned access allow them.
Personal workspace
Use it for work owned by you. It is selected by default when no workspace is specified.
Organization workspace
Choose it when the organization must own the project, members, billing, and security settings.

Create the project

  1. Open Dashboard, choose New project, and select the workspace that will own the project.
  2. Enter a unique project name and an optional description that helps collaborators understand the job.
  3. Choose one source language and at least one different target language, then save. The new project opens after creation succeeds.

After completion: The new project opens and appears under the selected workspace in the Dashboard sidebar.

Add source files and resources

Inside the project, Source is the entry point for uploading material. Review the upload analysis and processing status before opening a completed file in the Editor.

  • Translation memories and termbases provide reusable translation evidence and approved terminology.
  • Style guides, scenarios, and phrasebooks add instructions and context used by later translation work.

Translate and review

The Editor presents source rows, target-language work, status, history, and available assistance for the selected file. Suggestions support a decision; they do not replace checking the current source, context, terminology, and target-language requirements.

For team workspaces with collaboration access, assignments, My Tasks, issues, members, and progress views help coordinate ownership and review. These menus appear only when the selected workspace, project, and your assigned access include them.

  1. Open Source and upload the material you were given.
  2. Wait until file preparation is complete, then open the file in the Editor.
  3. Choose the target language, translate the rows, and check terminology, context, and status before finishing.

After completion: The translated rows and their statuses are visible when the file is reopened; team work also appears in the relevant task and progress views.

When access is blocked

  • A checking or recovery message on an encrypted organization workspace means its security state must finish loading or be recovered before project creation or opening can continue.
  • A missing menu or disabled action normally means the feature is not included for the current workspace or your assigned access.

Problem

Create is disabled

What to do

Select a workspace, enter a project name, choose one source language and at least one different target language, then wait for the name check to finish.

Problem

A workspace asks for recovery

What to do

Choose the recovery action shown beside the workspace and finish it before creating or opening projects there.
